After “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” many fans have wanted to know if Sony’s “Spider-Man 4” with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire reuniting could be a possibility. Since it has recently been hinted at by an old franchise actor, here’s all you need to know about its potential.
Is Sam Raimi Directing Spider-Man 4?
Sam Raimi is not confirmed to direct Spider-Man 4 yet.
The original trilogy director was going to return for his 4th Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire. The film’s production was canceled at the last minute. “The Amazing Spider-Man” with Andrew Garfield in 2012 happened instead.
However, there’s a new tease to the story coming from “Spider-Man 3” Sandman actor, Thomas Haden Church.
In his recent interview with Comicbook.com’s Chris Killian, Church spoke about his willingness to return as The Sandman. Beyond that, he even said that Raimi could do another Spider-Man movie with Maguire:
“But, you know, I think Sam is gonna do another Spider-Man with Tobey [Maguire], and that’s the one that … They had an option for me to do Spiderman 4 when there was going to be a Spiderman 4. They had an option on me to come back. So if it happens, that would be fantastic. I’m getting a little old.”
Since this film hasn’t officially been announced by Sony, Church’s statement needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Furthermore, Raimi is also rumored to be involved with future MCU projects such as “Doctor Strange 3” or “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
However, Marvel is yet to confirm the director for those projects either.
Will Tobey Maguire return for a fourth Spider-Man film?
Tobey Maguire is not confirmed to make a comeback as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4.
The question of his return depends upon whether Sony will make a 4th Spider-Man movie. After the success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” many thought that both “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” with Andrew Garfield and “Spider-Man 4” with Tobey Maguire had become possibilities. However, no announcements have been made in the more than two years since.
Since Sony’s Spider-Man Universe hasn’t found success in recent times, the studio could decide to switch back to Spider-Man solo outings with Garfield and Maguire individually. If Raimi and Sony were up for it, we could expect Maguire to be back as well.
