DC Studios is developing a wild new animated film based on the DC Comics series Jurassic League. The limited six-issue comic run was released in 2022 and the film that it’s based on will be set on “a prehistoric version of Earth that sees heroes and villains as dinosaurs.”

That right, Batman, Superman, Joker and more are imagined as savage prehistoric dinosaurs and this sounds like it will make for an awesome animated movie!

DC Studios CEO James Gunn is involved with the project as a producer and Brian Lynch is writing the script. Lynch has previously worked on films such as Puss in Boots, The Secret Life of Pets, and both Minions and Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Not much is known about the project, which doesn’t have an official title yet, but the description of the original comic series reads: “You know the story: an infant escapes the destruction of its home planet and is deposited on Earth to be raised by human parents. A goddess from a lost city defends truth. A Tyrannosaurus rex dons the visage of a bat to strike fear into evildoers’ hearts. This heroic trinity, alongside a league of other super-powered dinosaurs, join forces to save a prehistoric Earth from the sinister machinations of Darkseid. Wait…what? Okay, maybe you don’t know the story. So join us and bear witness to a brand-new-yet older than time-adventure and experience the Justice League as you have never seen them before!”

In the comic, Superman is a Brachiosaurus, Batman is an Allosaurus, Wonder Woman is a Triceratops, and Joker is a Dilophosaurus. Artist Juan Gedeon explained in a previous interview why he matched these specific dinosaurs up with these characters. He explained that Allosaurus was chosen for Batman because it’s a type of dinosaur that “has no superpowers, but puts fear in the hearts of criminals … Plus they have those pointy horns on the head, kinda like Batman’s ears.”

When talking about Superman, he shared, “[He’s] the pinnacle of goodness and strength, and he only fights if there’s no other option, so I wanted a herbivore dino that looks harmless but is solid and strong. Brachiosaurus was a perfect fit.”

Then Wonder Woman was matched up with a Triceratops because “they’re herbivores but they could defeat a T-Rex, so that seems fitting.” Joker was chosen as a Dilophosaurus, because that dino is small, sneaky, and predatory.

There’s no release date for this movie yet, but does it sound like something you’d be excited about watching?
