A Texas mother finds herself under arrest following a troubling episode at her son’s school, which led to a child being hospitalized. The authorities have identified the woman as 45-year-old Jennifer Lynn Rossi, who now faces charges related to intentionally harming a child.

The root of this unsettling event lies in Rossi’s attempt to confront an issue her son was facing at school. According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Rossi concocted a plan to prevent her son’s sports drink from being taken by other students, which she believed was happening regularly. Her solution was to mix lemon, salt, and vinegar into the beverage, creating a potentially unpleasant but non-toxic drink. “Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that the mother of the student who provided the drink, intentionally mixed the contents of the drink to allegedly prevent her son’s drink from being stolen at school by other students. Although, the contents of the drink were non-toxic, the incident resulted in a child being hospitalized. Hospital staff informed the investigator that the child victim required additional medical monitoring and would eventually be discharged from the hospital,” the statement reads.
The incident came to light when the school’s principal reached out to Rossi, who openly admitted to altering the contents of her son’s drink as a means to retaliate against the boy who allegedly stole it and bullied her son. According to statements gathered during the investigation, Rossi’s son had previously reported to his mother that his Prime drink had been taken by the victim, who then taunted him about the theft, according to NBC News.

Rossi, a nurse by profession, defended her actions by claiming her intention was merely to stop the bullying directed at her son, asserting her belief that the mixture was harmless. Despite her rationale, the consequences of her actions led to legal repercussions. The student who drank the mixture reported feeling unwell after taking a significant sip, which directly resulted in Rossi being charged with causing bodily injury to a child.
After the case was shared on the sheriff’s office’s official Facebook page, some commentators felt that Rossi was not in the wrong for making the concoction. One user wrote, “So she mixed a detox drink for her son, and a kid takes it and drinks it so he gets the runs now she is charged? ..but why didn’t the parents teach their kid not to drink or eat things that other kids give them. If he would have spit it out…which I’m sure he did unless he was forced to drink it he wouldn’t have got a tummy ache.”
Another said, “I know on top of that our schools are taught to not accept bullying but yet it’s still being done. My daughter has issues every so often and complains to the teacher instead of acting or giving a response to it and yet it continues. We live in a society where if you stand up for yourself or your children it’s bad it affects other people’s emotions. It’s simple teach your kids what’s yours is yours don’t eat others food unless it’s offered to you drinks as well. This mother must have gotten tired of her child being bullied.”
