Meek Mill lost his father to gun violence when he was just five years old, but the tragedy ended up being the motivator behind his success later on.
In a since-deleted post on Twitter/X on Tuesday (March 12), Meek spoke about the situation in what appears to be a message to detractors about how speaking ill of his deceased father doesn’t hurt him.
“My dad died in 1992 doing a robbery … that made me wanna get rich. That was the get back. The person who killed my dad is probably 60… talking about dead people don’t hurt me.”
He continued: “Having all your homies killed behind your mistake you gotta drink lean constantly.”

Meek Mill may have been talking to independent Philly artist called Poundside Pop in his message, as the pair had a back and forth on the social media app the day prior.
The drama began when Pop sat down with Akademiks on Monday (March 11), and said that he’d “banned” Meek from Philadelphia after the Dreamchasers head unsuccessfully attempted to sign him for $20,000 in exchange for “all my publishing.”
That prompted Meek Mill to take to his Instagram and make a series of posts — which have since been deleted — accusing Poundside Pop of being a “snitch” and claiming that he “told on Uzi to JAY-Z.”
Meek made additional posts on X/Twitter that accused Poundside Pop’s father of being a snitch. “I will crush his son,” the rapper said.
As fans are aware, Meek also has an issue with Akademiks — an issue which could potentially turn lucrative if the pair accepts the offer made by Damon Feldman.
Damon Feldman — the author of the book 16 Minute Man and the CEO of Official Celebrity Boxing — told TMZ earlier this month that he’s made all the necessary provisions for the pair to step in the ring, including booking a venue for May 18 and providing a $1million purse for the winner, if they will take him up on his offer.
“DJ Akademiks, always starting shit — listen, man, you gotta step up,” he said. “I already have the boxing training camp for you at Gonzalez Gym. Raekwon [not the Wu-Tang Clan legend] here is going to train you. Meek Mill, he already has a trainer with Monique Jackson.”
Feldman continued: “You gotta make this happen. May 18 in Atlanta. I already talked to my guys down at King of Diamonds. They’re helping get the venue down there. Step up. Celebrity Boxing has $1million on the table.”
The Off the Record host had previously challenged Meek to a boxing match, saying they could do it in public or private.
“[21] Savage can set it up in private, you can set it up in public,” he told fellow streamer Adin Ross. “We could get a price. He’s a bully that I think is pussy, so let’s settle it with the hands.”
