#Socialites, get into this update: The passenger who shot an aggressive attacker on a busy New York City subway will not be charged, according to prosecutors.
Oren Yaniv, a spokesperson for the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, expressed the gravity of the situation in an email statement. He mentioned that while the investigation is ongoing, the evidence points towards self-defense, which is why no criminal charges will be filed against the shooter. “Yesterday’s shooting inside a crowded subway car was shocking and deeply upsetting,’’ Oren Yaniv, said. “The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing but, at this stage, evidence of self-defense precludes us from filing any criminal charges against the shooter.”
As we previously reported, the chaos unfolded on the A train at around 4:45 p.m. Thursday at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station. The man who was shot, Dajuan Robinson, 36, had obtained the gun during the altercation but the other man manage to grab it and use it against Mr. Robinson who was the clear agitator. The situation escalated into a struggle over the weapon, resulting in the shooter, 32, firing at Robinson, hitting him in the head. Robinson is currently in critical condition in the hospital, and his chances of survival remain uncertain.

What Has NYC Mayor Eric Adams Said About This Latest Incident?
Adams said in a statement he believes this is a case of mental illness:
“The strategy was the right one. We have police officers there and we have police officers who are complementing the traditional transit patrol, who are going into the system and doing inspections and because of that, we made a quick apprehension,” Adams said. “We were able to prevent an additional act of violence from that firearm that was in the system. A person with severe mental health illness, what appears to be severe mental health illness, got engaged in a very violent way. The investigation is going to take its course.
Meanwhile, MTA CEO Janno Lieber emphasized there is no place for guns on trains.
“To be in an enclosed space with that kind of violence going on is the most unsettling thing that can happen,” stated Lieber. “That’s why we are pushing for more uniformed officers to be constantly present in the system. Transit crime is 2% of the crime in the city of New York, but it has a huge disproportionate impact on people’s sense of safety,” he said.
As the investigation continues, the circumstances surrounding the incident will be further examined to determine the appropriate course of action.
