Johnny Depp has responded to recent accusations from actress Lola Glaudini, who claimed the actor berated and mistreated her while filming a scene for the 2001 film Blow.

In a resurfaced episode of the Powerful Truth Angels podcast from Jan. 30, Glaudini recalled one scene where the film’s star Depp was doing a monologue and director Ted Demme (who died in 2002) instructed her to “burst out laughing” when he said a specific line.

“I hear the cue, and I go hahaha, I do a big laugh or whatever,” Glaudini said, noting that she did it for several takes. “Johnny Depp, when they say cut, walks over to me, comes up to me, sticks his finger in my face — and I’m in a bikini on the ground like this — and he comes over and he goes, ‘Who the fuck do you think you are? Who the fuck do you think you are? Shut the fuck up. I’m out here, and I’m trying to fucking say my lines and you’re fucking pulling focus. You fucking idiot. Who the fuck do you think… Oh, now, oh now it’s not so funny? Now you can shut up? Now you can fucking shut the fuck up? Oh it’s not funny now? The quiet that you are right now, that’s how you fucking stay.’”

Glaudini explained that she was especially taken aback because it was not only her first time on set, but also her first time meeting Depp.

“This was my first studio movie, I’ve just done indies until then,” the actress said. “And I have the star who I have idolized, who I am so excited to work with, reamed me in my face. The only thing going through my head was, ‘Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.’”

A representative for Depp told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, “Johnny always prioritizes good working relationships with cast and crew and this recounting differs greatly from the recollection of other members on set at the time.”

The rep pointed to a statement from Sam Sarkar, who has worked on Depp films The Big Lebowski and Choclat, the latter as Depp’s credited sound assistant. He was credited as a sound technician on Blow. Sarkar was a producer on Mortdecai and, most recently, Depp’s 2020 film Minamata.

“As a sound person, you’re constantly listening to what is going on on set, listening for noises, listening for chatter,” said Sarkar. “In fact, specifically, I would listen to Johnny’s audio to check for interference, both during rehearsals and during the take. I never heard anything like that — and that would have been a remarkable event.”

In her podcast, Glaudini also alleged that Demme didn’t “come over and say anything. He did not say, ‘Hey Johnny listen, you know what, I actually gave her that direction.’”

Later that day, the actress claimed Depp called her over to his trailer and gave her “a non-apology apology,” telling her, “‘You know, so earlier I was really in my head and staying in my character, I’m doing this Boston accent, and it’s really fucking with me. So, you know, I’m a little tense and stuff. So I just wanted to make sure we’re cool and everything?’”

Glaudini continued, “I just looked at him, and I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about? Of course, what are you talking about? Totally cool.’ Because I was like… my dad said, ‘Don’t let them see you sweat.’ So that was that.”

The actress added that hours after the incident, once they wrapped filming for the day, she “was like a pariah. … No one wanted to talk to me, because I’m the bitch who he railed at.”
