KBS1’s upcoming weekday drama A Profitable Cage (literal translation) or Su Ji and U Ri (English Translation) is all set to premiere next week. Directed by Park Ki-Hyun and penned by Nam Sun-Hye, it is a rom-com drama.
The storyline revolves around a star doctor, Jin Su-Ji (played by Ham Eun-Jung), who falls into a slump in her career after an incident. On the other hand, there’s a rookie doctor, Chae Woo-Ri (Baek Sung-Hyun). The story unfolds further as they build a family together. The newly released posters of the drama have already piqued viewers’ interest. Ahead of its release, here’s everything to know about the K-drama.
A Profitable Cage: Plot, cast, and character details
The rom-com drama A Profitable Cage features a stellar star cast apart from Ham Eun-Jung and Baek Sung-Hyun. Viewers can also look forward to Oh Hyun-Kyung as Oh Seon-Young, Kang Byul as Jin Na-Young, Shin Jung-Yoon as Han Hyung-Sung, and Sun Woo Jae-Duk as Han Jin Tae in supporting roles.
In this drama, T-ara’s Ham Eun-Jung plays Jin Su-Ji, who is a celebrity psychiatrist. She carries the trauma of being abandoned by her mother at a very young age. This is why Su-Ji tries her best to work double as hard as anyone else to achieve success. However, when she faces a rough patch and falls from her peak, she gets shattered.
On the other hand, Baek Sung-Hyun plays a rookie doctor, Chae Woo-Ri, in the drama. Woo-Ri is not only a kind-hearted person but is also quite humorous. He believes gaining his patient’s trust is much more important than acquiring fame and personal success.
Additionally, posters of A Profitable Cage are already doing rounds on the internet. In the first picture, Su-Ji and Woo-Ri are sitting quite far away but are holding hands, exuding a sulky expression. The caption also gives away a tense situation as it says their meeting is ‘ill-fated.’
However, in the second picture, Jin Su-Ji and Chae Woo-Ri look quite content with each other. As Su-Ji wraps her hands around Woo-Ri’s neck while wearing a bright smile, he looks happy. The caption on the poster suggests that even though their meeting was a “bolt out of the blue,” they are closer to “hitting the jackpot.”

The K-netizens are quite excited to see Ham Eun-Jung with Baek Sung-Hyun on screen. Both the actors will portray polar opposite characters in the drama and will bicker all along. However, fans are rooting to see their chemistry on-screen. This is the first time that Eun-Jung and Sung-Hyun are paired up together.
The production team of the drama shared their opinion with Edaily. They said, “We plan to portray the bickering romance between Jin Su-ji and Chae Woo-ri. Please look forward to an unpredictable romance where you don’t know whether it will be bad luck, sudden death, inevitability, or a big hit.”
A Profitable Cage will air on March 25, 2024, at 8:30 p.m. KST on KBS. The episodes will stream from Mondays to Fridays.
