A New York mother instantly went into mama bear mode when she thwarted a man who attempted to kidnap her daughter. The assailant, identified as 35-year-old George Vassiliou, was thwarted by the mother’s quick action, and a Ring camera captured the encounter.

The incident, captured on Adriana Alvarez’s doorbell camera, shows Vassiliou, 35, ambushing her daughter, Lex, 18, as she returned from walking their dog. He seemed to have been waiting for her, attacking from a higher landing and then dragging her down the stairs. Alvarez, upon hearing her daughter’s distressing screams, rushed out to confront Vassiliou, leading to a chase down the staircase. “I never heard her scream like that. It’s my baby; you can’t take her,” Alvarez said, according to TOO FAB. During the struggle, which spanned four flights of stairs, both Alvarez and her daughter fought back fiercely against Vassiliou, who resorted to pepper spraying and striking Alvarez in the face. A neighbor intervened, attempting to help by striking Vassiliou with a stick.
Despite the attacker’s efforts to pull Alvarez back by her hair and stomp on her back, the mother and daughter managed to escape and call for help, leading to a neighbor detaining Vassiliou until the police arrived. Further details reveal that Lex and Vassiliou were former coworkers at a supermarket, sharing a cordial relationship until Vassiliou’s behavior became concerning, leading to his resignation after Lex declined a date with him. This rejection seemed to have escalated his actions to stalking, culminating in the attempted abduction, despite a restraining order against him for previous attempts to take Lex forcibly.

The mother’s injuries from defending her child, including an orbital eye fracture, a dislocated shoulder and elbow, and nerve damage, are depicted on a GoFundMe page as badges of honor. Vassiliou now faces charges including attempted kidnapping, assault, possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of noxious matter, harassment, and violating a protection order, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
