The first two seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have been such a joy to watch. This show has done such a wonderful job capturing the true spirit of Star Trek, and fans are freakin’ loving it. The show has pulled off things that I didn’t think it could pull off like how it did such a great job reimagining iconic characters like Spock, Kirk, and Uhura.
I don’t know, the series just checks off all the boxes of what makes Star Trek, Star Trek. They also have fun playing in the sandbox and are trying new things. While talking about the show with Variety, co-showrunner and executive producer Akiva Goldsman, makes it clear that aren’t going to stop experimenting. He said:
“As long as we’re in storytelling that is cogent and sure-handed, I’m not sure there is [any genre ‘Strange New Worlds’ can’t do]. Could it do Muppets? Sure. Could it do black and white, silent, slapstick? Maybe!”
Star Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes has directed some episodes in the series including that Season 2’s Star Trek: Lower Decks crossover episode “Those Old Scientists,” which was fantastic! He is returning to helm another episode in the upcoming third season, which he describes as a “Hollywood murder mystery” and goes on to say that it’s “the best episode of television I’ve ever done.”
So, that gives Star Trek fans something exciting to look forward to!
