A New Jersey mother is speaking out after her daughter’s braid was allegedly “yanked” out by a teacher’s aide at a public school in Jersey City.
According to ABC 7, the mother, Aaquilah Perez is claiming that her 5-year-old daughter came home from school with a bald spot in her head after a teacher’s aide allegedly yanked her braid out. Perez took photos of her daughter’s head on March 15 and sent them to the news outlet. According to the report, her daughter, Zuwena is a Pre-K student with special needs and has ADHD. The incident allegedly occurred after Zuwena reportedly refused to get in time out. Perez explained to the news outlet that’s she outraged over the alleged incident and says the school system hasn’t done much to get down to the bottom of things.

“I think they really have to take this matter seriously because I don’t want anybody else’s kids to get hurt or I don’t want any other parents have to experience what I just experienced like three weeks ago, because it’s a terrible feeling to send your child to a place where they’re supposed to be safe and for them to come home with their hair pulled down and sad seeing that their teacher hurt them, it’s really heartbreaking,” Perez said.
Now this isn’t the first time we heard a story about some getting their braid ripped out of their scalp. Last year we shared a story about Popeyes worker ripping a braid out of a “complaining” customers head.
The incident occurred last September when Denetra Dawson claimed she visited a Popeyes location on Cleveland Avenue to get dinner for her kids, but unfortunately, the employees got her order wrong so she had to turn around and go back through the drive-through to get her order fixed. Dawson claims once she pulled up to the window the employees began to yell at her because she was holding up the drive-through line. That’s when one of the employees came outside to confront Dawson and opened up her car door and allegedly started to attack her. Dawson says the attack was so brutal the employee ripped her braid out of her scalp which left her with a huge bald spot in her head.

“They recovered and saw her braid that they ripped out and said we ripped that ‘B’s’ hair out of her head,” attorney Mawuli Davis said. “It took my identity. I took pride in my hair,” Dawson said. “I didn’t even think I was going to make it back to my kids.” Police identified the three employees involved in the brutal attack as manager Tenister Evans and her sister and daughter.
