According to MPA’s ratings bulletin published on Wednesday, Joker 2 has been rated R for “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity.”

The first Joker film also received an R-rating upon its release in 2019. The MPA rating comes one day after a new poster for Joker: Folie à Deux was released, which you can view below. The tweet also included news of a trailer arriving on April 9.

Who is Involved in Joker: Folie à Deux?

In Joker: Folie à Deux, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his Oscar-winning role of Arthur Fleck, the mentally ill stand-up comedian and castaway who becomes the iconic criminal, Joker. Joining Phoenix in the DC Studios sequel is Lady Gaga as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, the psychiatrist who later becomes Harley Quinn and begins a romance with Joker.

Zazie Beetz returns as Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s neighbor. Additional cast members include Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, Harry Lawtey, and Catherine Keener.

Joker: Folie à Deux is directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. Joker 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 4, 2024.
