One of the best things I saw at Wonder-Con last week was the artwork at the booth of Brett Bennett. My whole family stopped to look at the pieces, as there was something for everyone. The kids loved the Kirby pieces, as well as the fun mashups of Baymax and the Pillsbury Doughboy. We admired the DC Jokers playing poker, Mr. Potato Head loaning Van Gogh an ear, and Slimer in The Shining. The pieces were a feast for the eyes. But the one that stopped by dead in my tracks and took my breath away was of Ruby Bridges on her famous walk to school in 1960, but in this piece, she is escorted by Black Panther, M’Baku, Okoye, and Shuri.
When I asked Brett about this piece, he told me that he thought it would have been so much better if she had been escorted that day by the warriors of Black Panther. I had to purchase a print for myself, which came on 8×8 canvas, and is now displayed in my living room.
Check out Brett’s artwork at his Etsy Shop, and follow him on Instagram @brettsartworld, as well as Facebook.
