Previous winners of the IFTA Rising Star Award include Saoirse Ronan, Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, John Michael McDonagh, Sarah Greene, Gerard Barrett, and Jamie Dornan.

Announcing the nominees, Áine Moriarty, Chief Executive of the Irish Film and Television Academy, said this year’s group of Rising Stars represents a “brilliant new wave of Irish talent who are proving themselves to be world-class screen professionals.”

“This prestigious Award has recognized many great Irish talents in the early stage of their careers and, for the five Nominees this year, we hope this recognition will bolster the next phase of their creative journey internationally. Congratulations,” said Moriarty.

Selected by a special jury, the winner will be announced at the 2024 IFTA Awards Ceremony, held on Saturday, April 20 at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre and broadcast on RTÉ in Ireland.

Guests set for the show include Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (nominated for his work in Oppenheimer), Pierce Brosnan (nominated for The Last Rifleman), and Killers of the Flower Moon) star Lily Gladstone. This year’s Lifetime Achievement will be handed to Stephen Rea.

Lisa Mulcahy’s thriller Lies We Tell has the most film nominations at 13, and crime drama Kin heads up the TV field with 11. Alongside Lies We Tell in the Best Film category are Double Blind, Flora and Son, LOLA, That They May Face the Rising Sun, and Verdigris. Each of those films also scored a mention for their directors. The Best International Film Race includes All of Us Strangers, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things, Saltburn, and The Holdovers.
