Daisy Ridley is returning to the Star Wars universe with the upcoming film Star Wars: New Jedi Order. She got her big break in the 2015 pic The Force Awakens, and amid finishing that trilogy, she has also starred in and produced several other big projects that have given her some experience under her belt, and a new perspective going into this new chapter of the Star Wars lore.
Ridley has previously teased that the new film idea is really cool, and now she’s going a step further, explaining that she wasn’t so anxious to get back to the franchise that she would have jumped at any chance.
In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Ridley explained that she’s coming into the experience “a bit more eyes wide open,” and said:
“I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it. I suppose I owned it the first time. Basically, I’m an adult now. Certainly did not feel like an adult at the time. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had lots of other experiences, and so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time.”
She added:
“There’s just a lot of joy with me and these films. Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It feels like a great thing to be a part of.”
While plot details for the film remain under wraps at this time, Ridley confirmed she knows the basic plot structure of the movie. She went on to talk about her reason for returning to the franchise, saying:
“It wasn’t a difficult decision. I didn’t say yes right away, Kathy [Kennedy] was like, ‘Take as long as you need.’ Why wouldn’t I [do it]? Yes, they have been divisive, but also they bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people. It feels pretty amazing to be able to continue a character – like, can I even remember how to play her? It’s an interesting challenge as an actor to come back to something and try to figure out what’s changed for me and what’s changed for her.”
Little is known at this time about the new film, but May the Fourth is just a few weeks away, and I bet we will hear something cool!
