After taking a step back, Megan Thee Stallion has fully returned to the public eye. Many would easily agree that the rap star looks absolutely amazing from her rebranded look, stunning physique, and great energy. However, it’s clear that this revamp didn’t just happen overnight.
While speaking with @womenshealthmag for its latest cover story, Meg opens up about how she turned to therapy and the gym to help her get through an extremely tough time in her life. As previously reported, Megan was shot by rapper and former friend Tory Lanez after leaving a Hollywood Hills party together in 2020. After years of being slammed online, Meg got justice. Tory was found guilty in December 2022. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023.
Megan said, “A lot of people didn’t treat me like I was human for a long time. The “Not My Fault” artist went on to say, “I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me. As a Black woman, as a darker Black woman, I also feel like people expect me to take the punches, take the beating, take the lashings, and handle it with grace. But I’m human.”
The 29-year-old went on to share that around that time, she struggled severely behind the scenes.
“I would be crying half the time because I didn’t want to [perform], but I also didn’t want to upset my fans,” Megan told the magazine. “I didn’t want to get [out] from under the covers,” she tearfully recalled. “I stayed in my room. I would not turn the lights on. I had blackout curtains. I didn’t want to see the sun. I knew I wasn’t myself. It took me a while to acknowledge that I was depressed. But once I started talking to a therapist, I was able to be truthful with myself.”
Megan said after pushing herself to get out of her depression she really focused on her mind, body, and soul. This included therapy and an intense workout routine.
“Working on myself made me get into working out because I needed to focus my energy somewhere else,” she says. “I used working out to escape and to get happy.” Now she’s doing it daily.
