Travis Kelce Says He Doesn’t Know How He Landed Taylor Swift

On the latest episode of his podcast, “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end explained that dating the “Midnights” singer wasn’t on his radar.

“I don’t know how I did it because she wasn’t into sports. So I don’t know how the f-ck I did it,” he told his co-host and brother Jason Kelce and guest Dave Burd, aka rapper Lil Dicky.

In response to Travis’ claim, Burd replied, “Well, you did it because you called her out on your multimedia platform.”

“I know exactly how I did it,” he concurred.

Back in summer of last year, before dating the pop superstar, Travis, 34, famously recalled on his podcast his attempt to meet Swift at her concert stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it,” he said.

“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings. So I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” he said.

This seemingly innocuous story caught Swift’s attention and resulted in a meeting between the two. By September, the two were rumored to be an item and their relationship became one of the most talked about in the sports and entertainment worlds.

Swift, 34, who is notoriously private about her romances, aside from using them as fodder for hit songs, told TIME magazine that her romance with Travis has made her “the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been.”

“Football is awesome, it turns out. I’ve been missing out my whole life.”

She also confirmed that Travis’ bold move of talking about her on his podcast intrigued her.

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” she told the magazine after being named its Person of the Year.

“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date,” Swift continued.

Swift has had a long line of suitors, from John Mayer, Calvin Harris and Joe Alwyn. She split from Alwyn in April of 2023, leaving her wide open for a relationship with Travis.

Since dating Travis, Swift became a mainstay at Chiefs games, cheering him on from the stands with his family and friends. She’s also become part of the Chiefs crew, making friends with other Chiefs wives, including Brittany Mahomes, wife of Patrick Mahomes, Travis’ teammate and friend.

The world has delighted in watching Travis and Swift’s relationship progress, from her “Eras” concert tour stops to the Super Bowl.

As podcast guest Burd summed up, “I think it’s the best thing ever. I love it. Honestly, my take on it, not that you want to spend time talking about it for the 5,000th time, but like, I just think there’s something that makes everyone feel like it’s – like the world is kind of like high school,” he said.

“Your most popular pop star, beloved musician, somehow met like your most popular, beloved athlete and they actually fell in love. And like, it’s just real.”

For his part, Travis is taking his love story with Swift in stride.

He told the Wall Street Journal that he’d “never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them.”

He summed it up further on the podcast.

“It’s fun. I’m having a blast in life, baby. Just flying high. Enjoying it all. Bringing new lives to the football world. Opening the football world up to new things as well.”
