A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after his mother, who was placed in his care, was found “fused” to her bed and covered in feces and maggots.

On Monday (April 8), around 12:20 p.m., 51-year-old Daniel Klein, of Upper Chichester Township, was arrested and charged with abuse of a care-dependent person and reckless endangerment offenses. The arrest came after law enforcement officials visited the Pennsylvania man’s home on Dresner Circle.
Officials say the visit was in response to a well-being check made by a neighbor who noticed packages being piled up at the front door of the home. The neighbor reportedly tried knocking at the front and back doors of the house, but no one answered any of his attempts.

When law enforcement officers arrived at the home, they found stacked packages and white plastic bags of food littered around the front door along with “a large amount of trash and flies” visible inside the home through a rear sliding door. After getting no response when they tried knocking on the front and back doors, the police decided to force their way inside “due to the belief that the residents inside were deceased or having a medical emergency.”
However, when officers made their way inside the home, they were met by Klein, whom they began to question. During their conversation with the Pennsylvania man, officers quickly noticed a “foul odor” and asked Klein if they could look around the home and check on his mother’s well-being. He then escorted them to a bedroom in the back of the home, where he reportedly told officers his mother was sleeping.

Once inside the bedroom, officers said they found the Pennsylvania man’s mother in a bed, unconscious but breathing and covered by a soiled blanket. Officers immediately called emergency medical services to the home, and upon their arrival, Crozer EMS workers removed the blanket on Klein’s mother and discovered that “her lower half was covered in dried feces and maggots and she had ram’s horn toenails.”
The EMS workers also discovered that the Pennsylvania man’s mother had become “fused to the bed,” that was covered in feces and maggots. However, workers were able to remove the woman with some effort, but she remained “fused to the bed sheets.” She was then transported to a nearby hospital, Crozer Chester Medical Center, where she was treated. Meanwhile, the Pennsylvania man was placed under arrest, where he remains in custody at George Hill Correctional Facility awaiting an arraignment after being unable to post a $50,000 bail.
