A Lousiana woman shared her dating nightmare after her lengthy journey to Rapid City, South Dakota, to meet a man she met online and dated remotely for three years.

River Blake,23, said she met her online date through their shared love for truck shows and social media. He even convinced her to move in with him into his new home. They maintained their daily communication schedule and deepened their bond through FaceTime. Feeling comfortable enough to make the trip to meet her future partner, Blake decided to book a flight and fly 1,500 miles away from home. However, once she arrived, her date said he was delayed, and she waited at a local cafe and then at the airport: “Airport security kept checking to see if I was OK – and I wanted to stay, just in case he actually showed up.“
Hours later, her date’s subsequent messages and a selfie inadvertently revealed he was heading in the opposite direction, and he stopped communicating with Blake. As the New York Post reported, the sudden pause in messaging left her stranded and nearly broke since she spent $290 at a Hilton hotel and an additional $1,000 for a last-minute return flight. Blake also connected with a friend who drove her around town to show local and tourist spots along with buying some ice cream.

In retrospect, River concluded that perhaps it wasn’t her time for love, at least not with this person. She says she’s focusing on her modeling career, embracing more travel opportunities, and closing that painful chapter in her life. However, she remains in touch with the new friend she made, appreciative of the unexpected companionship that helped salvage part of her trip. This experience, though disappointing, reinforces her belief that everything happens for a reason.
“I’m still in touch with Tucker to this day. He showed me some pretty good places. I guess all’s well that ends well.”
