What are the best sci-fi movies and TV shows on Hulu in April 2024?

The best sci-fi shows on Hulu in April 2024 have something for everyone, whether you’re looking to dive into a dystopia, or chase down bounties with a group of space cowboys. You’ll have a blast with these series and movies that are available to watch now.

Cowboy Bebop

The adventures of a ragtag group of bounty hunters on the spaceship Bebop are told in this highly acclaimed anime series. Cowboy Bebop is one of the most influential anime of all time and is a must-watch for fans of any genre. It has great visuals, memorable characters, and an iconic jazz soundtrack. The show isn’t strictly sci-fi either. It mixes different genres — noir, western, and comedy — to the point where it becomes something wholly unique.

Dr. Stone

When Dr. Stone begins, a mysterious light freezes the world’s population to stone. Thousands of years later Senku, a young scientist, is one of the first to awaken from this state he sets out to rebuild society with his know-how. Dr. Stone is a new and entertaining take on the post-apocalyptic sub-genre. Its fascinating characters, smart plots, and educational content make it a great choice for people who want to watch something fun and informative at the same time.

The Fifth Element

This stunning and underrated space opera, is directed by Luc Besson with art design from the iconic artists Moebius and Jean-Claude Mezieres. The Fifth Element is about a cab driver named Korben Dallas who gets involved in a mission to save the world from a great evil. Along with the mysterious Leeloo and a group of memorable characters, Korben has to race the clock to prevent Earth’s destruction. This movie is a true classic in the sci-fi genre. It has stunning visuals, eclectic humor, and endless action.

Firefly

Firefly takes place in a galaxy where Earth’s government has become harsh and totalitarian and many have fled to the edges of civilization to keep their freedom. It follows the adventures of a group of rebellious people on the spaceship Serenity as they do both legal and illegal jobs to stay alive. This short-lived but incredibly popular show was created by Joss Whedon of Buffy fame. It smoothly blends elements of science fiction and western genres, creating a unique and immersive world with unforgettable characters.

The Handmaid’s Tale

The Handmaid’s Tale is based on Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking dystopian book of the same name. It takes place in a totalitarian society where women have no rights and are forced to work as sexual slaves. June, a handmaid who has to deal with the harsh government and fight for her freedom, is at the center of the show. Fantastic acting and deep themes make The Handmaid’s Tale an exciting and moving sci-fi drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you think about its strong message long after the credits roll.

Idiocracy

Idiocracy Camacho

A normal guy named Joe is put into suspended animation as part of a military experiment. He wakes up 500 years later to find that society has become an alarmingly stupid place. Though of average intelligence in his time, Joe finds he’s the smartest person in this new world, so he has to figure out how to deal with its problems and save everyone from being so stupid. Idiocracy is a funny and biting look at modern society that shows how dangerous anti-intellectualism can be and how important it is to value knowledge and critical thought.

The Orville

The Orville, created by Seth MacFarlane, is a love letter to classic sci-fi shows like Star Trek. It follows the crew of the exploratory spaceship USS Orville as they deal with the difficulties of traveling between stars, meeting aliens, and building relationships with other people. The Orville has quickly become a fan favorite and a standout addition to Hulu’s sci-fi genre. It has the right blend of funny and serious stories and is surprisingly self-aware and tender.

Outlaw Star

Follow the crew of the spaceship Outlaw Star as they go on a quest to find called the Galactic Leyline, the location of an immense treasure, in this action-packed anime series. Along the way, they have to deal with threats, such as other pirates, hostile aliens, and a powerful company that wants to take control of the wealth for itself. Outlaw Star is an exciting and engaging story that keeps sci-fi fans on the edge of their seats from beginning to end. It seamlessly blends science fiction, adventure, and fantasy elements.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

This exciting show picks up where Terminator 2: Judgment Day left off. It follows Sarah Connor and her son John as they keep fighting Skynet. With the help of Cameron, a modified Terminator, they work to stop the end of the world and change the future. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a well-written, suspenseful, and action-packed addition to the Terminator world, even though it only lasted a two seasons. It gives fans a new way to look at their favorite characters and their ongoing fight against the machines.

The X-Files

The X-Files is widely considered to be one of the most important sci-fi shows of all time. It follows FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigate strange events and cases of the paranormal. There are equal parts science fiction, horror, and conspiracy in The X-Files. It has become a cultural touchstone, and any sci-fi fan should watch it. The show has been revived and spun off multiple times because of how famous it is, making it a true classic in its genre. With its captivating plots, memorable characters, and masterful mix of genres, The X-Files continues to fascinate viewers and inspire new generations of sci-fi fans.
