Alien³ (1992, David Fincher): The Funeral scene juxtaposed with the Xeno birth.

Director James Gunn has cast Neva Howell in the role of Martha Kent in his Superman movie. Martha is the wife of Jonathan Kent and the adoptive mother of Clark Kent / Superman on Earth.

Yesterday, it was announced that character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince would be playing Jonathan Kent. There’s no word on how big of a role these characters will have in the movie.

Martha Kent was played by Phyllis Thaxter in Richard Donner’s 1978 film Superman, Eva Marie Saint in 2006’s Superman Returns. and Diane Lane in 2013’s Man of Steel.

Howell is a character actress who has appeared in projects such as October Sky, Run The Race, Logan Lucky, and More.

Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman also stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman; Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.

Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
