Bethenny Frankel opened up about the “relief” she felt after miscarrying what would’ve been her second child with ex-husband Jason Hoppy on Tuesday’s episode of her podcast.
After admitting to ignoring “red flags” and convincing herself to be into Jason, 53, on last week’s episode, the 53-year-old Real Housewives of New York City alum recalled telling her then-husband she was “so incredibly relieved” she miscarried amid their “suffocating” marriage.
“In a constructive way, I said, ‘I’m kind of relieved … because I don’t think this is a healthy or positive relationship,’” Bethenny revealed on the April 15 episode of Just B Divorced. “It was a nightmare that it happened. [That was] my first step to saying something.”
In response, Bethenny shared that Jason slammed her as a “real piece of sh*t” and temporarily moved out of their shared home — another happening that made her feel relieved.
Back in June 2012, Bethenny confirmed her miscarriage in an essay for Glamour. But at the time, she said the “relief” she felt was not due to her and Jason’s tumultuous marriage, but because it meant she wouldn’t have to begin a new job amid a pregnancy.
“There was, I have to admit, a bit of relief that I wouldn’t be starting my new TV job seven months pregnant,” she wrote. “And then there was immense guilt at the relief.”
Also on Tuesday, Bethenny opened up about her and Jason’s sex life before her miscarriage, saying her former spouse labeled their bed a “block of ice” because she “didn’t want to have sex at all.”
“I did not want to be intimate,” Bethenny explained, citing the lack of “respect” she had for Jason. “I used to force myself, gag myself through doing it. … It is torture.”
Bethenny, who split from Jason in December 2012 and finalized their years-long divorce in 2021, also confessed to feeling “stupid” about getting pregnant with daughter Bryn Casey Hoppy, now 13, so soon in her relationship with Jason.
“I will never regret my daughter for one minute, but I felt like I was bullied and waterboarded and flogged and on a road I could not get off of,” she alleged.
According to Bethenny, her and Jason’s issues stemmed from his feeling “emasculated by [their] disparity in income.”
In other Bethenny Frankel news, the RHONY alum sparked rumors of a potential split from longtime fiance Paul Bernon earlier this week as she shared a video in which she appeared to be hiding her ring finger from the camera.
According to Bravo and Cocktails on Instagram, rumors of a split had been swirling “for a while” before the clip was shared.
“She seems to be hiding her hand [with] her ring purposely … to get us talking or [because] it’s true,” the fan page stated.
Bethenny was featured on seasons one through three and seven through 11 of The Real Housewives of New York City and starred in three seasons of her spinoff, Bethenny Ever After.
