Whew! NBA YoungBoy appears to be in some deep trouble. As we previously reported, the rapper, legally known as Kentrell Gaulden, has found himself entangled in a legal web involving a prescription fraud ring in Utah. The artist, who has been under house arrest in Utah since 2021, was taken into custody by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, facing over 60 charges related to organizing a scheme that involved prescription thefts from pharmacies in the state.
The investigation into Gaulden’s alleged involvement in the fraud ring began after he was identified as a suspect by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office. So what the heck were they doing? Well, the scheme reportedly revolved around individuals calling in fraudulent prescriptions using real doctors’ names and fake patient information, with Gaulden’s associates then picking up the medications from various pharmacies. Whew!
While speaking exclusively with KUTV, Erik Stewart, a pharmacist at Reed’s Pharmacy in Hyrum, shared his experience of being targeted by the group, expressing relief that the suspicious activity was flagged before any prescriptions were filled. Stewart noted several red flags in the fraudulent prescription request, including unusual medical terminology and quantities that raised suspicions among his team. “Usually, you don’t get a doctor calling in a cough syrup themselves. That’ll be like a nurse or something – but then, just their medical terminology was off the quantities,” he explained. “The way they pronounced the things – everything was suspicious.”

While Stewart admitted he was not familiar with NBA YoungBoy before the incident, he acknowledged that some of his younger colleagues recognized the rapper.
While the investigation is still ongoing, Stewart told the outlet, “I’m just happy that they were able to connect the dots.”
The investigation, which involved multiple pharmacies across Utah, was a collaborative effort between local law enforcement agencies and federal partners. Lt. Mikelshan Bartschi of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said further work would be required to unravel the extent of the fraud ring.
