EXCLUSIVE: Veteran producer and executive Becky Sloviter has been named President of Miramax Motion Picture Group, Deadline can exclusively reveal.
The news follows Miramax’s announcement three weeks ago that Jonathan Glickman had been officially appointed as CEO, taking over from the exiting Bill Block.
An Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, Sloviter launched her production company, A Dare To Be Great Situation, in 2022 and has most recently been under a first-look overall deal with ABC Signature. Prior to that, she served as Head of Funny Story Films, a division of MRC Film, there producing upcoming titles including the road trip comedy The Inheritance from Emmy winner Ashley Nicole Black (Ted Lasso, A Black Lady Sketch Show) and the Annie Murphy starrer Witness Protection, from screenwriters David West Read and Rupinder Gill, alongside Alloy Entertainment.
In addition to the acclaimed Andy Samberg rom-com Palm Springs, which won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Comedy in 2020, Sloviter served as an executive producer on Hulu’s PEN15 and Netflix’s Emmy-winning sketch series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson while running The Lonely Island’s production company, Party Over Here.
“As an executive and producer, Becky has demonstrated the rare ability to balance taste and commercial sensibilities across an array of genres and budgets,” Glickman told Deadline. “Miramax is fortunate to have her passion, talent relationships and vision to guide the studio’s film division.”
Stated Sloviter, “It’s truly an honor to work with Jon and the entire team at Miramax in shaping this new chapter at the studio. I couldn’t be more thrilled to help usher in the next wave of unforgettable cinematic stories for today’s global audience.”
Sloviter cut her teeth under Mary Parent and Scott Stuber at Universal Pictures and their joint production company, Stuber/Parent Productions, where she served as a producer on the comedy Role Models, starring Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd. Thereafter, she accompanied Parent to MGM, overseeing films like The Cabin in the Woods and Zookeeper while serving as Vice President of Production. A native of Philadelphia who received her B.A. from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Sloviter began her career as an agent trainee at Endeavor.
A joint venture between beIN Media Group and Paramount Global, Miramax has most recently seen the release of Alexander Payne’s coming-of-age drama The Holdovers for Focus Features, which was one of the most decorated titles of this past awards season, as well as David Ayer’s actioner The Beekeeper starring Jason Statham, which has crossed $150 million at the worldwide box office. Among the studio’s upcoming projects on the film side is Robert Zemeckis’s Here, starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, which Sony will release on November 15.
Recently releasing series like Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, which spent weeks atop Netflix’s English-language series chart, and Max’s reinvention of Project Greenlight, the studio’s development slate on the TV side includes a Netflix adaptation of Alka Joshi’s bestselling debut novel, The Henna Artist, with Freida Pinto attached to star and exec produce; the limited series The Key Man, exec produced by and starring Dev Patel; and a series adaptation of Miramax’s film Prêt-à-Porter with the BBC. The studio also recently secured television rights to the Halloween horror franchise, with additional projects in development internationally.
Sloviter is represented by Ziffren Brittenham.
