Monica Speaks On “Falling In Love” With Her “Friend” Anthony Wilson
On Monday, April 22, HelloBeautiful published its latest cover, featuring the 43-year-old singer. Additionally, the cover was accompanied by an exclusive interview with Monica.
At one point in the conversation, the singer discussed having a “ride-or-die mentality” while being in love. She acknowledged that “sometimes” it can “allow people to just ride completely over you.”
“I found myself in my loyalty and in my dedication to people that did not share the same in return for me. For years I thought letting go was wrong because I put that in the same package as loyalty. I guess I was about 30 years old when I truly understood it,” she explained
Now, the singer explained that she is “in a relationship that has been amazing.” The outlet noted that her current romance is with a manager and film executive named Anthony “Ant” Wilson.
“When you fall in love with someone that’s been your friend for a very long time, I think it’s different,” she said.
Monica explained that her current romance is the “first time” that’s “ever” happened to her.
“I’m new in the space, but I’m definitely enjoying it. I’m enjoying being supported. I’m enjoying being really loved in a way that allows me to be a lot softer than I typically am,” she explained. “There are a lot of firsts happening for me right now.”
The Singer Shares What “Stands Out” Most About Her New Love
As the conversation continued, Monica dished on the things she’s experiencing for the first time in her romance with Wilson. Additionally, she explained what “stands out” most about him.
“One of the things that stands out to me most that he consistently does, he fixes things… I mean, in any capacity, if I’m looking for it,” she said. “…he’s able to help me do things that I’ve always had to do alone. And taking some of the burden off my back on a daily basis allows me to be more free, even with the children or in other places… if he calls me and he hears the slightest bit of stress in my voice, whatever I tell him is wrong. He fixes it. And that’s something I’ve never experienced before, ever.”
According to the outlet, Wilson arranged for the singer’s three children to visit her while she was stopped in Denver as a guest performer on Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ tour in March. The surprise reportedly brought the mother to tears.
“In my relationship now, I don’t have to take over… I can just be myself, express myself, explain what’s happening in my daily, and he just fixes it,” she said. “He can tell you where all of my children are most of the day. He loves to make sure that his relationship with them is intact. Not in a way that seems forced but natural. Whatever it is they love, he goes to that, meets me, meets them where they are.”
A Brief Recap Of Monica & Anthony Wilson’s Public Romance
As The Shade Room previously reported, in June 2023, Monica revealed to Essence that she was “open” to having more children. Additionally, she shared that she was open to marriage despite her “past experiences” with love.
“I can’t wait to meet the person I could spend the rest of my life with,” she explained. “…I’m open to having more children and getting married. I’m not bitter or tainted by my past experiences at all. I just feel like the things that I’ve gone through have been to build me, not break me…”
Then, in October of that year, Wilson took to Instagram to share a few posts in celebration of the singer’s birthday. In one photo, he called her “babe.” In the others, he placed red heart emojis.
Then, in December, Monica and Wilson appeared to make things red carpet official when they popped out next to Ashanti and Nelly at a black-and-white event.
At the time, social media users questioned the ‘So Gone’ singer about her ex-boyfriend, C-Murder. However, Monica made it very clear where she wanted fans to keep their attention.
