The Walking Dead franchise continues to have a strong run on AMC. It is one of the main projects keeping the network thriving. It’s the most valuable property that they own, and they aren’t going to ditch it anytime soon.

Regardless, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman would love to do a faithful animated series one day, but until he gets the rights back from AMC, that won’t happen.

When asked about an animated series, Kirkman explained: “I’d love to see it happen someday, but I don’t think it’ll be possible until I get the rights back from AMC.”

He added: “There’s definitely been developments over the years for something like this, and there’s a lot of fans over here that would still very much love to make that happen.”

The closest thing we got to an animated series was an eight-minute motion comic that was released in 2010 and adapted 13 pages from The Walking Dead #1 by Kirkman and artist Tony Moore.

AMC also played with comic-style animation in an animated segment of the webisode series The Walking Dead: Red Machete. AMC’s Walking Dead Universe chief content officer Scott M. Gimple has expressed interest in using animation in potential future episodes of the anthology spinoff Tales of the Walking Dead, but nothing has ever happened with that.

I wouldn’t mind seeing an animated adaptation of The Walking Dead! I think there’s some awesome potential there, but if AMC doesn’t do it, it’s going to be a very long time before Kirkman would be able to do it.

Would you be interested in a faithful animated adaptation of The Walking Dead?
