Devin Haney breaks silence on Ryan Garcia’s – Alleged Doping Violation: “It’s Unfortunate Ryan Cheated And Disrespected Both The Fans And The Sport”
Devin Haney has released an official statement to ESPN following shocking reports that his opponent Ryan Garcia tested positive for performance-enhancing substance before and the day of their fight last month.
The 25-year-old said, “We learned about this situation not too long ago and it’s unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice.”
He continued, “I’ve always been an advocate for clean fighting and this is an example of such. Ryan owes the fans an apology, and by his recent tweet, he still thinks this is a joke. We put our lives on the line to entertain people for a living. You don’t play boxing. This puts the fight in a completely different light. Despite the disadvantage, I still fought on my shield and got back up!”
He concluded, “People die in this sport. This isn’t a joking matter.”

What Has Ryan Garcia Said So Far?
Of course, Garcia has denied using performance-enhancing drugs in a video posted on social media late Wednesday night following claims he tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine.
Garcia who floored Haney three times in his upset victory, but did not win his American compatriot’s WBC light-welterweight title after missing weight for the contest, said, “Everybody knows that I don’t cheat,” Garcia claimed in a video posted on X. “Never taken a steroid … I don’t even know where to get steroids… I barely take supplements. Big lies.”

The WBC requires all its fighters to submit to the ‘clean boxing program’ and employs Vada to oversee the drug testing. If the allegations are true, it’s unclear Garcia was allowed to fight. So far the WBC has not released a statement on this matter.
Meanwhile, the New York State Athletic Commission said in a statement to ESPN. “Safety, fairness, and integrity in professional athletic competition are essential. The Commission is in communication with VADA and is reviewing the matter.”
