During Tom Brady‘s Netflix roast, ‘The Greatest Roast of All Time,’ fellow New England Patriots alum Aaron Hernandez was referenced a few times throughout the night, and not in a positive light. If you missed it, the late NFL player was mentioned quite a few times during the three-hour roast, both directly and indirectly, by Tom Brady himself, along with Aaron Hernandez’s former teammate Julian Edelman, who directly referenced Hernandez’s suicide death.

A clip from the roast is going viral showing Julian Edelman telling a joke about his ex-teammate Aaron Hernandez. The clip began with Edelman mentioning Rob Gronkowski, stating, “Everyone always asks me, ‘How big Gronk’s d*ick is.’ Now, don’t get me wrong, it gets the job done. But, there was this other Patriots tight end.” After a brief moment of silence, Edelman looks up at the sky and proceeds to say, “Now, he was hung.”

Immediately, the crowd began to roar with a loud “Ohhh.” Edelman tried to silence them with his hands and added, “Think about it, think about it.” As he began to laugh at his harsh joke, the camera panned to Rob Gronkowski, Kevin Hart, and other celebrities who were clearly left completely shocked and in awe of what they just heard.

Nikki Glaser also made a joke about Aaron Hernandez. While asking one NFL star why he didn’t have a championship ring, Glaser joked about Hernandez having a ring, around his neck. During the roast, she said, “Now, please give it up for zero-time Super Bowl champion Randy Moss. I’m sorry, Randy. Why don’t you have a ring? What the hell man? You’re one of the best ever! Drew Bledsoe has a ring! Aaron Hernandez had a ring.. around his neck! Like, what’s going on?!”

Actual comedian Tony Hinchcliffe also roasted the hell out of Tom Brady while pulling Kevin Hart and Aaron Hernandez into his jokes as well. At one point, Hinchcliffe said, “Tom is afraid of the [New York] Giants, which is why Kevin Hart is hosting tonight. All night, he’s been using the stool that Aaron Hernandez kicked out from under himself.”

Aside from being roasted himself, Tom Brady also did some joking himself and also made light of Aaron Hernandez’s controversial past, including his murder case of which he was convicted before he took his own life in prison. During the roast, Brady said, “The bar for the New England Patriots was pretty low back then.” He proceeded to list off the requirements, stating, “Block. Catch. Don’t murder.” As the crowd laughed, Brady began to smile and chuckle himself.

Speaking with TMZ following the Tom Brady roast, Aaron Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, condemned Brady, Julian Edelman, and the others who joked about the late NFL player’s suicide death.

Jenkins, who is also the mother of Hernandez’s only child, 11-year-old daughter Avielle Janelle Hernandez, said she was deeply disappointed in the fact that her late partner was the butt of multiple jokes during the Netflix special. She said, “It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world.” She continued to say that although Hernandez is no longer here many people still have opinions about him and his life and their daughter is now old enough to understand and face the comments and criticism.

She added that their daughter views her late father as her hero and after Sunday night’s roast, where all of these grown men and fellow Patriots alum joked about his life and death, it’s only complicating things for her, adding that Aaron Hernandez should have been off limits.
