Here’s What Marlon Wayans Revealed

Wayans sat down for an exclusive interview with the New York Times, published on Saturday, May 4. During the conversation, the comedian reflected on the deaths of his parents.

“You know what’s crazy? My mother’s death broke me,” he said. “It shattered me into a million pieces because that was my girl.”

While speaking about his mother, the comedian made a revelation.

“I never got married because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman,” he added. “I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman.”

As the conversation continued, Wayans revealed that never wanting to make his mother jealous was one of the “five reasons” he never got married.

“That was one of five reasons,” he said. “And Mom was very needy. I told my mother on her deathbed, ‘I never got married because I always wanted you to be my No. 1 girl.’ Those were my last words. I said, ‘Take that to heaven with you.’

The Comedian Shares How His Parent’s Passing Changed His Life

During the interview, Wayans also revealed that he lost 58 people whom he loved in a matter of three years.

“…it wasn’t just the death of my parents. I lost 58 people that I loved in a matter of three years. It felt, like, biblical,” he explained.

Despite the tragedy, Wayans has shared how the events made him a “different human” who understands the “quality of life.”

“I miss my parents dearly, but I’m a different human with my parents gone than I was when they were here,” he said. “Now I’m a man. I don’t have parents anymore, so I live differently. I understand the quality of life.”

Wayans added that he isn’t consumed by technology “as much,” and he takes time to enjoy mundane activities such as walking and praying.

“I pray more because when I pray, I feel like I’m speaking to my parents and that they’re listening. I let them know what’s going on,” he said.”

Marlon Wayans Recently Made Headlines With Another Family-Related Topic

Marlon Wayans and his family recently made headlines in March. At the time, reports surfaced that the comedian was hit with a paternity suit after being accused of fathering a one-year-old child named Axl July Ivory Wayans, per The Shade Room.

The suit was reportedly served by the child’s mother, Brittany Moreland.

The woman reportedly requested legal and physical custody of the child. Additionally, she reportedly advocated to be reimbursed for pregnancy and birth expenses while advocating for Wayans to be awarded visitation with the one-year-old.

Wayans didn’t waste any time publicly addressing Moreland’s paternity suit and request. The comedian spoke exclusively with The Shade Room about the one-year-old and shared why Moreland’s legal requests were “delusional.”
