Steve Albini, a luminary of underground rock, has died at 61. As confirmed to Pitchfork, Albini suffered a heart attack at his recording studio, Electrical Audio.
While he fronted both Shellac and Big Black, Albini was better known for his legendary accomplishments in the producer’s chair. Albini was the force behind countless classic albums, including Nirvana’s In Utero, PJ Harvey’s Rid of Me, Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, Jawbreaker’s 24 Hour Revenge Therapy, Cloud Nothings’ Attack on Memory, and beyond.
