Frank Grillo has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Peacemaker Season 2, and he will reprise the role of Rick Flag Sr., a character he voices in DC’s upcoming animated series Creature Commandos.
Gunn made the announcement with a social media post, saying:
“Pleased to announce the great @frankgrillo1 will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr – the role he’ll first play in animated form in Creature Commandos – throughout Season 2 of #Peacemaker. Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of…”
We’ve heard that some characters from the Creature Commandos characters would make their live-action debuts, and Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is obviously one of them. This will be fun!
Peacemaker Season 2 has been a priority for Gunn, and he explained why, saying, “Because it’s my favorite thing to do, it’s the biggest original Max show ever, and I have a way in.”
The filmmaker went on to address the whole new DCU thing in regards to the series, saying, “It won’t be confusing.”
There are no details on the story for Season 2, but Gunn teased his future cameo plans for it, saying, “I think we’re going to see more connections in some other stuff as we move forward with Peacemaker and other shows at HBO Max.
“So those [cameos] will keep coming. I don’t know if the Justice League is going to show up in every season of Peacemaker; that might be a one-time thing. We’ll see!”
Peacemaker stars John Cena and follows the action-packed and wild escapades of Peacemaker, a vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
The rest of the show’s cast includes Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Gunn will be directing some of the episodes of the show on the weekends while he’s shooting Superman. There are three other directors that will be working on the show as well.
