Boosie BadAzz Avoids Prison Time in Federal Gun Case

After a pair of “win your way in” showcases for Los Angeles radio stations ALT 98.7 and KROQ, Cage the Elephant performed their first full set at the 780-capacity Echoplex last Tuesday night (May 7) in Echo Park. The concerts came in support of the band’s sixth studio album, Neon Pill, due out May 17 via RCA Records. Singer Matt Shultz and brother/rhythm guitarist Brad Shultz led a 21-song set list consisting of classics “Cold Cold Cold” and “Spiderhead” while adding the finishing touches to newer tracks “HiFi (True Light)” and “Rainbow.” Cage the Elephant’s love for Los Angeles also shined through with a performance alongside Beck on “Trouble” and Matt Shultz having a wardrobe change featuring a personalized Dodgers jersey. The Shultz brothers both took turns getting up close and personal with fans at the barricade, with Brad fully diving in for a crowd surf. The energy remained high, and came to a climax with the unrelenting encore: “Shake Me Down” to “Cigarette Daydreams” to “Come a Little Closer.” “It feels good to be back,” Matt explained multiple times, the gratitude echoing in his movements.
