Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back was released in the US exactly 44 years ago (May 21, 1980). It is a favorite of mine. If you watched the movie when you were younger, how did you feel about it then and how do you feel about it now?

It was May 21, 1980 when Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back was released in the US. And it remains my favorite Star Wars movie and one of my favorite films of all time. There are so many wonderful scenes in that movie, and the story works both superficially but also in a much deeper way, like it appeals to something old and fundamental about the human experience and our existence, needs and desires, and relationships.

Watching it again, btw, it still holds up very well. Since then, there have been so many imitations but none can match the power of the original, imo.

Those of who saw the movie when you were younger, what was your reaction to it? How do you feel about it now.
