Mahershala Ali Says He ‘Doesn’t Know Where Marvel Is At’ With Blade

Sometimes Hollywood likes to pump out the same old same old. This movie is not the case. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was one of the most fun experiences that I have had at a movie theater in a long time.

For those of you who have been following GeekTyrant, Furiosa has been on our top ten most anticipated movies of the year. It did not disappoint.

This is George Miller’s fifth foray into the Wastelands and I am happy to say this was my favorite trip down the Wastelands rabbit hole. This visually stunning, action packed prequel/sequel hit all of the notes for me.

Every shot was intentional, every sequence held a purpose for the story. Though released backwards, this made Mad Max: Fury Road a perfect companion to Furiosa.

While at CinemaCon this year, Miller explained that during the filming of Fury Road he wrote a complete backstory for every character that played a major role in this on-going story.

That is where he fell in love with the story of Furiosa and knew that he had to bring it to the big screen. His love story to this character was exceedingly beautiful and tragic, heartbreaking and fulfilling.

I was entranced for the whole two and half hours of the movie. I was so enthralled that I was frustrated for the people getting up to go to the bathroom because they were going to miss something.

The film was big. I know that word does not do the movie justice, but even on the IMAX screen that we were watching it on, it didn’t seem big enough to capture the vastness being shown.

The craziest part is that you could tell that the majority of the movie was done with practical effects, which made it even more fantastic. Everything in this movie was bigger than Fury Road. This movie was a true master work of Miller’s and it is worth seeing on the biggest screen you can find.

Now, let’s talk about the acting in it. To say that the actors truly understood the assignment would not be giving them enough credit. Casting Chris Hemsworth was a stroke of genius. He was able to set himself apart from the rest of the crazies of the land and make himself one of the craziest around by far.

He starts at 11 and stays there until his last scene. Dr. Dementus was scary in the way that he could adapt his insanity to fit any scenario to make it just that much worse. Hemsworth was able to make his kindness seem the most devious.

Not to take anything away from Charlize Theron, but Anya Taylor-Joy made that role her own. There was so much that she brought to the role. In George Miller style, there were a lot of close up shots and quick zooms into people’s faces, and you could read how she was feeling in every situation. I am torn with who should be playing Furiosa in the next installment in the Mad Max Saga.

The real diamond in the rough was Tom Burke who played Praetorian Jack. I really want to go into his character and what he brought to the table, but I promised not to spoil anything.

I am so excited for everyone to see this. It is going to be a conversation starter for a while. This movie also, just like The Fall Guy, proves the point that stunt men deserve to be nominated for all the major movie awards out there.

The stunts in this movie are bigger, badder and more spectacular than ever before. There is no way that this movie would be as good as it was without those hard working, rarely noticed men.

With all of that said, I am going to give this movie a solid 9. I am sure with more viewings, it might move to a 10. Please go check this movie out, and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
