NLE Choppa recently shared his thoughts on the now-settled rap battle between Drake and Kendrick Lamar and revealed how although he enjoyed their competitiveness he also feared that things could have turned deadly.

While speaking with Billboard News, NLE Choppa talked about his new music along with the recent state of Hip-Hop, and the return of diss track culture, with notable mention of Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s recent and now-settled rap battle.

Speaking on K. Dot and Drizzy bringing back diss track culture, NLE Choppa said, “I feel it serves a purpose to a certain extent. I look at it from a competitor standpoint. I love to see competitiveness rather in sports because when it comes to Rap and competitiveness, sometimes it gets a little risky because some people really take it to the heart.”

The Memphis, Tennessee native continued, “I feel like that’s the part of it that you really gotta tread lightly on because a lot of these people are walking around with a certain type of pride on their shoulders or holding it in to where their feelings might really be hurt. In our community, when our feelings get hurt, especially a lot of Black men, we don’t express that our feelings are hurt in the most positive manner. Sometimes it leads to motherf***ers being killed, salty, hurt, or it keeps just [getting strung] along, and it takes a toll on you mentally.”

The “Slut Me Out” rapper added, “I mean [there’s] a flip side of it. I love to watch it from a competitive nature, but I’m also behind the scenes like, ‘Bruh, I’m hoping these motherf***ers don’t take it serious ’cause at the end of the day ain’t none of us God.’ Yo a** can die.’”

NLE Choppa also spoke on his own experiences with battling or beefing with other rappers in the game, like with Los Angeles rapper Blueface.

However, Choppa first insisted on how he tries to stay out of rap battles and rap beefs. He added, “I don’t take it serious. If I go back and forth on a beat, I’m just knowing in my mind I’m not taking it serious. Now, if he’s taking it serious that’s one thing, but I’m so one with self to know when I could be like, ‘Alright, I’m done feeding into this,’ because the more you feed into it, the more it starts to grow.”

Choppa added that he can lyrically assassinate his opponent on a beat and then call them up and say, ‘Alright, bro. I’m done f***ing with you. I don’t even want to f**k with you no more. Like, this sh*t ain’t gon’ end [well]. At the end of the day, you don’t want to die and I don’t want to die.’” Choppa added things can go either way after that, but he knows that he has two beautiful children to make it back home to.

Speaking of the artistry that Drake and Kendrick Lamar showed during their rap battle and who he believes won, NLE Choppa said, “Artistry is for there. I feel like the win is more so not about ‘Who got the most streams?’ Or ‘What song is the best?’ I think the win is more so how you handle the success you got from all of the controversy. I think the win will be something like both of them coming together and doing a song together. I think that’s one of the most beautiful wins because, from the outside looking in, there probably ain’t even no real, real problems.”

Choppa added, “When I’m from, there’s a lot of problems to where people are really wanting to attack people. I know people’s brother or sister got killed in the car with them because of some beef sh*t. So, now working with the n***a that killed my brother or sister is way, way harder than a whole ‘nother beef that probably started from something that’s not as serious. I think the win is how Kendrick will go home and feel about it and how Drizzy will go home and feel about it. I think the win is doing something similar to when Drake and Meek Mill was having their feud. They did what they did but they came back as men, shook hands, and made a song. That’s what we need to see.”
