Joe Budden is on the same page as Jermaine Dupri when it comes to Apple Music’s recent ranking of the 100 best albums of all time.

The Slaughterhouse MC discussed the list on a recent episode of his eponymous podcast, published on Tuesday (May 28). Like JD, he took issue with the glaring omissions of some classic R&B albums as well as the low ranking of others.

“Just talking about solely R&B, what they did with [Sade‘s] Love Deluxe, [Usher‘s] Confessions, [SZA‘s] Ctrl, Prince and [Michael Jackson] is egregious,” he said. “This list is disrespectful to a lot of R&B actually. There’s a lot of phenomenal R&B albums [that are missing]. [Marvin Gaye‘s What’s Going On not being in the Top 10] tells you that they disrespected the rest of R&B.”

One thing Budden did note was done correctly was the position of Kendrick Lamar‘s good kid, m.A.A.d city in the Top 10, though his former podcast co-host Mal would disagree.

In mid-May, Apple began rolling out their list over the course of one week. In a press release, the company described the rankings as an “editorial statement, fully independent of any streaming numbers” on its platform and “a love letter to the records that have shaped the world music lovers live and listen in.”

As the picks dropped, Jermaine Dupri couldn’t help but notice the lack of R&B entries.

Frank Ocean’s Mom Gushes Over ‘Blonde’ Ranking On Apple Music’s Best Albums List

“Looking at this @AppleMusic top 100 albums list is sad, the disrespect to R&B is CRAZY!!!!! It’s giving not worthy [face palm emoji]” he wrote in a post to X (formerly Twitter) earlier this month.

Some of the R&B albums on the list are Usher’s Confessions (#95), Solange’s A Seat at the Table (#93), Mary J. Blige’s My Life (#86), SZA’s SOS (#72), Erykah Badu’s Baduizm (#64), Sade’s Love Deluxe (#61), D’Angelo’s Voodoo (#57), Janet Jackson’s Control (#42), Beyoncé’s self-titled LP (#36), and Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On (#17).

SZA was also offended at the low ranking of her chart-topping and recording-breaking SOS album.

After catching wind of the list, the TDE singer wrote in an Instagram comment: “Lmao 72nd is so disrespectful.”
