Peanut Butter Falcon filmmakers Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson have been tapped to adapt and direct the remake of Riders of Justice for Lionsgate.

Schwartz and Nilson also directed the feature Los Frikis, which earned the top jury prize at the Miami Film Festival. Their previous film, The Peanut Butter Falcon, a modern day take on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn tale that starred Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson, became the highest-grossing indie film of 2019. That feature film debut was preceded by short docs about Alex Honnold, the subject of Free Solo.

Shawn Levy, Dan Levine of Dan Cohen of 21 Laps Entertainment are producing the Riders of Justice remake after Lionsgate earlier picked up the English-language adaptation rights to the Danish action-comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen.

Jensen and Nikolaj Arcel, who co-wrote the 2020 movie, will write the English-language version. Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Anders Kjaeurhauge from the original film are executive producing, while James Myers is overseeing for Lionsgate.

The original 2020 Danish film starred Mads Mikkelsen and followed a recently-deployed soldier who returns home to care for his teenage daughter after his wife is killed in a tragic train accident. But when a team of statistics experts investigating the accident claim foul play, the soldier goes on a revenge-fueled mission along with an eclectic group to find those responsible.

Lionsgate and 21 Laps are also teaming on the upcoming film Never Let Go, starring and executive produced by Halle Berry. Directed by Alexandre Aja, the genre title is set for a Sept. 27, 2024 release.

Schwartz and Nilson are represented by WME and Range Media Partners.
