Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance launches June 14 for PC, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 4 and 5. The expanded re-release features a new alternate story path and a sizable amount of new content. Developer Atlus recently offered a breakdown of the new features alongside the game’s latest trailer.

What are the new Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance gameplay features?

Atlus and publisher Sony premiered the new Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance trailer on Tuesday. It offered some additional looks at gameplay in Vengeance’s post-apocalyptic Tokyo and more teasers for the new Vengeance story path. Game Director Shigeo Komori also expanded on the new features in a PlayStation Blog post. These include enhanced exploration, an expanded combat system, a new type of side quest, and more.

One of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance’s more interesting gameplay additions is a new kind of side quest where players take control of various demons. Players will then use the demons to complete non-combat tasks around the game world. This allows players to explore the landscape while getting to know their demons better. The re-release also adds a new feature called Demon Haunts, letting players unlock rewards by interacting with their demons.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance’s improved gameplay includes fast travel, a sky view, and a full map view. Meanwhile, the new Magatsuhi Rails lets players find shortcuts, explore new areas, and discover secret locations. The alternate Canon of Vengeance storyline also features some locations not found in the original.

Vengeance also adds new demons, abilities, enemies, and various quality-of-life features. The latter include increased relic pickup range, fewer ambushes from aerial enemies, more Miracles, and changes to demon encounters. The re-release also lets players save their game anywhere and changes Estoma, which blocks enemy encounters, from a skill to a Miracle.
