A woman who was declared dead at a nursing home and later found alive at a funeral home has passed away hours later.

Constance Glantz,74, was initially declared dead on Monday, and after staff at the Butherus, Maser, and Love Funeral Home brought her in, they noticed about two hours later that she was still breathing. They performed CPR and quickly transported her to a local hospital, but officials said she was later pronounced dead for a second time, as reported by the BBC. During a press conference, Chief Deputy Ben Hounchin from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said that an investigation is underway and called the case “very unusual.”
Police also said a coroner was not sent to the nursing home after Glantz was declared dead, but since she was in hospice care, the situation didn’t require a coroner to perform an examination. Additionally, a physician reportedly had seen Glantz in the last seven days and was apparently willing to sign her death certificate.

Houchin added that the post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Tuesday and the results can take up to 12 weeks. He also clarified that there was no wrongdoing when asked about the funeral home’s response to the case.
“The funeral home did absolutely nothing wrong. They are the ones who found that she was still alive.”
In a statement to the BBC, the funeral home said in a statement that they were proud of the staff for handling the situation in a professional manner.
