On Wednesday (June 5), authorities in Florida released a statement revealing that divers exploring the waters off Key West found what they initially believed to be garbage on the ocean floor. However, it turned out to be more than two dozen individually wrapped packages of suspected cocaine.

After the shocking discovery of the 25 bricks of suspected cocaine, which were wrapped and marked with fake Nike SB logos (featuring the famous footwear brand’s iconic swoosh logo) and stuffed inside a large black garbage bag, police were called to the scene at the Rainbow Reef Dive Center in Key Largo at around 12:25 p.m.

The 25 bricks of suspected cocaine each weighed a kilogram (or 2.2 pounds) and were located about 100 feet underwater in the Atlantic Ocean. After the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, the suspected drugs were later turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.

In a post shared to Facebook, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office shared an image of the scuba divers’ findings and wholly wrote, “Twenty-five individually wrapped kilograms of suspected cocaine was found by scuba divers Wednesday in approximately 100 feet of water in the Atlantic Ocean. The Sheriff’s responded to the Rainbow Reef Dive Center in Key Largo at approximately 12:25 p.m. where divers stated they were removing what they thought was trash when the discovery was made.”

Speaking with NBC 6 South Florida, Samuel Briggs II, the U.S. Border Patrol Miami Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent, revealed that the 25 bricks of suspected cocaine found by the Florida scuba divers weigh about 66 pounds altogether and is valued at over $1 million.

Briggs also shared a video of the scuba divers’ findings on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Cocaine Caught at Sea: Good Samaritan in the Florida Keys discovered a suspicious package floating at sea & notified authorities.
