Method Man has addressed the criticism he faced following his remarks about his performance at HOT 97’s Summer Jam earlier this month.

The Wutang rapper appeared onstage at the summer concert alongside Redman to show support for the late Mister Cee on (June 2).

Method Man Clarifies Statements About Summer Jam

TMZ caught up with Method Man while he was out in New York promoting the final season of ‘Power Book II: Ghost.’ While chatting with the outlet, the hip hop emcee told the outlet that he doesn’t fault the younger crowd for their reaction to his set with Redman.

“You know what I’m upset about, cause I wasn’t mad at the crowd. If you look at the captions or the comments that I left, there’s words like ‘thank you’ and ‘I love you.’ Just a generation gap. I showed grace, but the feedback that it’s gotten, I don’t think it’s fair for one and for two I would never point my finger at a crowd for not liking my music. That’s not even it.”

However, Method further stated that his comments about the performance were misconstrued, and he doesn’t have any regrets about what he said.

“I was there for Mister Cee and it was New York, so I figured I’m in New York, I’m in my backyard. People know who I am. I wasn’t mad at the crowd, that was me having a self-awareness moment, that’s it!”

Social Media Reacts To Meth’s New Comments

The Roomies rallied to support Method’s recent comment in The Shade Room comment section. Many social media users praised him for his choice to step back from future appearances at the festival.

Instagram user @mr_foh_ wrote, “Some of yall need to be like Meth realize a time and situation isn’t for you and do your best and move on gracefully.”

While Instagram user @free.samuda wrote, “Hip Hop is the only genre where we do this. Force the OG’s out because they’re “too old” meanwhile the 60-70+ year old rockers are still selling out shows to YOUNG PEOPLE.”

Instagram user @_prettynghetto wrote, “Love the way he articulated that! Ladies and gentlemen a REAL MAN.”

Then Instagram user @callmeboogz wrote, “It was an age gap of who comes to summer jam now that’s it. The core fans of his or his generation at that is not who shows up. It was a valid statement. No hate.”

Instagram user @officialdaddymo wrote, “Method Man still the goat regardless of whether you love his music or not. That’s the OG.”

Lastly, Instagram user @_ottohaze_ wrote, “As a artist you gotta know your core audience he’s just fully aware of that no need to make it more than what it is.”

Rapper’s Initial Response To Summer Jam Audience

Method Man appeared at Summer Jam with Redman at UBS Arena in Long Island, New York City on (June 2).

HipHopDX reports that the STARZ actor initially expressed his views on the crowd’s lack of enthusiasm for his performance on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Meth told his social media followers about his decision to part ways with the festival due to what he perceives to be a “generation gap.”

“Not our crowd at all.. thanks again, New York and the whole tri-state (that showed up to the event) plus Pete and Ebro. I got love for you guys, but never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me.. #nevercomingback”

Despite the hip hop star’s feelings toward Summer Jam, Meth seemed to enjoy himself at the Roots Picnic at the top of June. He headlined the two-day Philadelphia event with Redman.
