A content creator on TikTok recently shared her unfortunate experience using Old Spice deodorant and it turns out she’s not the only one who’s had this problem.

Ashley Wagner wants to warn others of the dangers of using Old Spice deodorant, but also can’t believe the company’s response to her complaint. And it turns out that this issue has been going on for quite some time.

In a TikTok video shared a few days ago, Wagner revealed her painful experience using Old Spice deodorant.

“Like a week ago, Old Spice gave me chemical burns under my arms, and they did compensate me but what they gave me,” she said. “They sent me a letter. They did compensate me. You wanna know what it’s for?”

The company gave Wagner a coupon to get another Old Spice deodorant, only one, up to an $8 value.

“You think after you burned my underarms so bad, they were raw, I felt like if I were to scratch, I’d be seeing bone at that point,” she said.

“And you did it to a bunch of other people. I know you’re being sued and did you just hand out a bunch of coupons?”

Ashley Wagner Isn’t Alone With Her Reaction To Old Spice Deodorant

Viewers had something to say about this unfortunate and painful incident in the comment section. Some commented that she must have an allergy and should try something else, but others shared their reactions to this deodorant.

“Kinda crazy, my cousin’s coworker gets $2k a month from them for the next 5 years because of the same thing,” one person shared.

Another wrote, “Old Spice literally did the same thing to me when I used their deodorant.”

Another viewer said, “I used it once and it was the worst burn ever. Never will go back.”

Other TikTokers Have Also Shared Similar Stories About Old Spice

A quick search on TikTok for others who shared Old Spice war stories brought up many videos spanning the past few years.

Isabelle Tiberio also shared photos of chemical burns under her arms after using Old Spice deodorant. The comment section of her video had sort of an angry, combative vibe going on with many telling her she’s just got an allergy.

“You’re just allergic to something. Happened to me with other deodorants. Doesn’t mean the same for all,” one person wrote. Another said, “I’ve been using Old Spice for over 2 years and I’m fine so just probably allergic.”

And then there were many who could relate to her issue.

“I’m literally going through this now, it hurts so bad,” one person shared. Another added, “Currently getting better. I had used it for a while and it just gave me chemical burns. Skin peeling off, pain raising my arm, I’m so not using it!”

A Reddit Thread From Two Years Ago Also Discussed Chemical Burns From This Brand

A Reddit thread started two years ago also has social media users comparing their chemical burns thanks to Old Spice deodorant.

The original poster shared, “So I’m definitely getting a chemical burn on my skin using Old Spice. Anyone else?” and many chimed in with their thoughts and experiences.

“I’ve been using Old Spice deodorant since I was 15 and never had any issues until just this past year. It happened to me twice before where my armpits were stinging and burning so badly I had to run to the bathroom and wipe it away with paper towels and had big red rashes on my armpits. Today it just happened again within an hour of applying it, and when I went into the ocean for a swim my armpits started stinging so badly,” one Reddit user shared.

Another said, “My skin was messed up by Old Spice Fiji, which also caused me to get a terrible rash, redness, and blisters. A few nights later, I realized my armpits were terribly burning. They were strange patches that were bright red. They were burning so terribly the next day that I was unable to lift them. The burns from the chemicals are beginning to scab.”

And there’s more where that came from. It appears that many others have experienced similar issues after using Old Spice.

There Was A Lawsuit In 2016!

A man who used Old Spice deodorant filed a lawsuit in 2016 that alleges 13 Old Spice products are defective. These products caused severe chemical burns and rashes in “hundreds if not thousands of men” after using Old Spice Swagger, Lionpride, and Arctic Force High Endurance deodorants.

In the proposed class-action lawsuit, the man sought $25,000 in damages.

In response to the lawsuit, Procter & Gamble issued a statement.

“The safety of the men who use Old Spice is the foundation of everything we do. We go to great lengths to ensure our products are safe to use, and tens of millions of men use this product with confidence and without incident every year. A small number of men may experience irritation due to alcohol sensitivity, a common ingredient across virtually all deodorant products. For men who have experienced a reaction to deodorant, an antiperspirant may be a better option because they have a different formulation.”

Green Matters reported that according to ClassLawGroup, a judge determined in 2016 that it was not possible to pursue a class action lawsuit against Procter & Gamble for the chemical burns. The judge gave a few reasons for not pursuing the suit with one of the reasons being that the 13 Old Spice products had varying fragrances, making it hard to determine liability.
