A traffic court judge in Myrtle Beach reported that she was threatened and assaulted following a break-in at her home last month. This information was revealed in a police report from Horry County that was obtained by News13.
Brana Williams filed an aggravated assault charge against her estranged husband, James B. Arnold, who is a retired police chief from Isle of Palms. Tragically, Arnold has since passed away. The residence located on Chapel Ridge Circle, close to Saint James High School, was one of the homes where Arnold and Williams resided prior to their separation. It was at this particular house that Arnold tragically ended his own life.

Williams and her partner, Brian Shives, spoke to the news outlet about the fight that occurred. “I fell asleep, and thank God I did, because he was, I mean, of what happened,” Shives said. “He didn’t know I was in the house. He came in to kill her and everyone in the house. He told some people this thing, this stuff.” According to the report, Arnold forcibly entered Williams’ residence around 2 a.m. on May 28. Williams revealed that she had been married to Arnold for 23 years but had recently initiated divorce proceedings just a few months prior.
They have six adopted children, all of whom are under 20 years old.
Shives mentioned that he and Williams first met when she brought her daughter to the tattoo shop where he was employed. He stated that Williams had already left her residence with Arnold at that time. Nevertheless, a family member claimed something different.

Shives described how he confronted Arnold the night he broke into her house.
“I saw, she had two younger sons that had a hold of his arms, and I see the gun so, I jumped over . . . jumped up and stuck my finger behind the trigger,” he said.
According to the report, Arnold tried to enter Williams’ bedroom when a fight broke out. Shives said Arnold had a gun in his hand that he was trying to get ahold of.
“He punched me about six or seven times trying to get me off,” Shives said. “So, I got the magazine of it, and when he saw that, he was trying to hit me in the chest, to make the gun go off. He cut my chest up pretty good.”
