Netflix has released an amusing new promo video for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which sees NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal auditioning for the role of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop.
This is Shaq’s “lost audition tape” and in the video, he says, “This is perfect for Shaq, I love Beverly Hills Cop.” He also pulls out a banana for a gun and proclaims himself Shaqxel Foley.
The whole banana thing is obviously a fun call back to the prank that Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley pulled on two cops in the original movie who were supposed to be tailing him when he shoved some bananas in the tailpipe of their car.
In the upcoming film, “Detective Axel Foley is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner and old pals Billy Rosewood and John Taggart to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”
Taylour Paige stars as Foley’s criminal defense attorney daughter who pulls her dad into a California-based case – where he’ll cause issues for Kevin Bacon’s LAPD special-unit officer, and team up with a new partner, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The movie is directed by Mark Molloy and Murphy is also joined in the film by Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and more.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is set to hit Netflix on July 3rd.
