In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti, gives fans a sneak peek into her breathtaking maternity shoot. As she eagerly awaits the arrival of her first child with her man Nelly, Ashanti shared the details of her beachside photoshoot and the surprising turn of events that led to their pregnancy announcement.
Ashanti expressed her joy and authenticity in choosing the beach as the backdrop for her maternity shoot. In her own words, “To be on the beach, out in nature and the sunshine, that’s what makes me smile and makes me happy genuinely from within,” the singer explains. “Then, obviously, the princess girly, glam Ashanti vibe is there as well.”
After almost a decade apart, fate brought Ashanti and Nelly back together at Fat Joe and Ja Rule’s Verzuz battle in 2021. Nelly managed to obtain Ashanti’s number from DJ City, leading to their reconnection. Now, three years later, they find themselves engaged and excitedly sharing their journey with fans. During the interview, Ashanti revealed how Nelly reacted when she broke the news of her pregnancy. It was during a performance at Nelly’s annual Black and White Ball in St. Louis when Nelly playfully rubbed her belly. However, she was unaware that she was actually pregnant at the time. Ashanti admitted that she hadn’t even taken a pregnancy test yet. She clarified that she was merely adjusting the pendant on her black dress, not intentionally showcasing her belly. The unexpected announcement caught them both by surprise.

The Confirmation:
Ashanti suspected her pregnancy after experiencing a missed period. As soon as she confirmed her suspicions, she couldn’t wait to share the news with her fiancé.
“He was so happy and we were both smiling and it was so funny,” Ashanti says of Nelly’s reaction to their big news. “I was actually at his mom’s house… He was in the studio. It was a really cool moment. It was a little bit of everything.”
The Roller-Coaster Romance:Ashanti and Nelly’s relationship has been a roller-coaster ride since it began in 2003. At one point, Nelly suggested that their relationship was influenced by media attention, but they officially called it quits in 2013. Despite keeping their status under wraps for years, Ashanti confirmed in March 2015 that they were a couple until two years prior. Now, nearly a decade later, they have rekindled their love and are stronger than ever.
