A Florida plastic surgeon has now been charged in his wife’s death after he reportedly left her in cardiac arrest on the operating table during a November 2023 procedure.

According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Benjamin Jacob Brown was arrested for the death of his 33-year-old wife, Hillary Brown. The surgeon was accused of allegedly waiting 20 minutes before calling 911 after his wife went into cardiac arrest on his operating table.
Per a press release from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were called to the Restore Plastic Surgery clinic in Gulf Breeze, Florida on November 21, 2023, for a medical emergency. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that the plastic surgeon’s wife was suffering from cardiac arrest. The woman was rushed to a hospital and placed on life support but died just one week later on November 28.
In the woman’s obituary, she was described as “kind and cheerful by nature” and had been listed as an organ donor to five recipients. She was further acknowledged for being a “loving and supportive mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend,” with a “radiant attitude and infectious smile” to be truly missed.

On Friday (June 14), the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office reported, “After an extensive investigation in conjunction with the District One Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office, our detectives requested a warrant for the arrest of Dr. Benjamin Brown.”
On Monday (June 17), the plastic surgeon turned himself in to the authorities and was arrested on second-degree felony homicide and manslaughter by culpable negligence. Before his arrest, the Florida Department of Health issued an order of emergency restriction on Dr. Brown’s license in May 2024, which provided more information on the Florida plastic surgeon’s wife’s death.
In the order, it was revealed that the woman was scheduled to undergo “miniature muscle plication/abdominal scar revision, bilateral arm liposuction, lip injections, and ear adjustment procedures.”

Before the surgeries, the woman reportedly created her own IV bags, ingested a “handful” of “multicolored pills, which included Valium,” and created her own tumescent anesthesia, but did not document it. Subsequently, the medical board said that this was unauthorized as the woman was not licensed to perform any procedures.
During the procedure, the woman reportedly told her plastic surgeon husband that she “saw orange” and began to experience muscle spasms — which are all symptoms of lidocaine toxicity. Despite this, the husband continued to perform the surgery, his wife became unresponsive and had a seizure. At this point, the medical board said the woman should have been rushed to a hospital for “a higher level of care.”
According to documents, a medical assistant asked the plastic surgeon if they should call 911, he reportedly told them, “No,” and over the next 10 to 20 minutes, the assistant, who was new and scared, continued to ask but he replied, “no,” or “wait.” He further yelled at his staff, demanding to know, “What medication did she take?” Since the incident, Brown has now been arrested and booked into the Santa Rosa County Detention Facility. He was released on $50,000 bond the same day.
