The Midnight Romance in Hagwon episode 14 recap: Wi Ha-Joon & Jung Ryeo-Won navigate challenges

This week’s episode 14 of The Midnight Romance in Hagwon began with Hye-Jin confessing her love for Joon-Ho and asking him to love her even more now that she needed him. The following morning, Joon-Ho’s parents discussed their displeasure with his relationship. Hye-Jin lied to Joon-Ho about being late to the academy. Meanwhile, Joon-Ho decided to face the challenges head-on.

Fellow academy teachers decided on the next course of action. Led by English Department team leader Yoon Ji-Seok, they addressed the issue at hand when Hye-Jin entered the room. Just as she was about to give her statement, Joon-Ho arrived, wondering how Hye-Jin arrived earlier than him. When Korean Department Team 2 leader Lee Myung-Joon made scandalous claims about the relationship, Joon-Ho fought with him.

Their air was even more tense outside the academy because of Hye-Jin’s relationship with her former student, Joon-Ho. Moreover, the parents were also against Hye-Jin’s new teaching method of preferring knowledge over exam questions and predictions. Rumors about the relationship spread like wildfire. Meanwhile, rival academy Choiseon Korean director Choi Hyeong-Seon enjoyed her increasing success. She decided to rent out Daechi Chase, predicting the academy’s downfall after the incident.

Later in the day, Daechi Chase director Kim Hyun-Tak apologized to assistant director Woo Sung-Hee, but it yielded no results. The latter decided to take the academy’s teachers by offering them more incentives. Back at the academy, Social Studies team leader Min Hee-Joo confronted Yoon Ji-Seok over his actions. She discovered how Woo Sung-Hee had planned it all out, and Lee Myung-Joo supported her by spreading scandalous rumors outside.

Meanwhile, Hye-Jin broke down after student Ha-Yool’s mother maliciously accused her of having an affair. Joon-Ho, on the other hand, faced the students’ sarcasm but held his head high and confronted them. As the rest of the office navigated the change, rookie instructor Nam Cheong-Mi supported Hye-Jin. At Choiseon Korean, Hyeong-Seon blackmailed assistant director Pyo Sang-Seob to follow her methods or get fired.

Many parents enrolled their students in Choiseon Korean and left Daechi Chase. Amidst a crumbling academy, Nam Cheong-Mi expressed her support to Hye-Jin. Meanwhile, Joon-Ho left Hye-Jin a note for everyone to see. While he met with director Kim Hyun-Tak, Cheong-Mi decided to get into a relationship with Joon-Ho’s best friend, Choi Sung-Gyu.

By the end of the episode, Joon-Ho met with Kim Hyun-Tak for dinner. The latter advised Joon-Ho to quit Daechi Chase, but Joon-Ho expressed his desire to stay and support Hye-Jin and the academy. Joon-Ho eventually broke down, blaming himself for entering the academy and into Hye-Jin’s life. He worried about the academy’s future and if his actions led to Hye-Jin’s professional downfall. Just then, Hye-Jin entered to witness Joon-Ho crying.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Hye-Jin and Joon-Ho’s relationship. Viewers will have to wait to discover if the two salvage their relationship and the academy.

You can watch the final two episodes, 15 and 16, of The Midnight Romance in Hagwon on Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 9:20 p.m. KST on tvN and later on Viki.
