Charlamagne Spills The Tea On What Tyla’s Team Told Him Not To Ask
The radio personality shared on ‘The Brilliant Idiots’ what occurred behind the scenes before the South African singer’s interview. He stated Tyla’s team asked him not to inquire about her no longer touring with Chris Brown, a recent injury, Kai Cenat, comparing her to other artists, or identifying as “coloured.” Charlamagne said he told Tyla’s management that he would still ask the questions so they could “either prepare Tyla for those topics to be brought up or just cancel the interview altogether.”
The author stated that he had to ask about her comical interaction with Kai. Tyla’s interview on the show arrived the day after Kevin Hart presented Cenat with a framed poster that read, “We friends tho.” Tyla used the line to turn the streamer down after he asked her on a date.
During Tyla’s interview on the show, the host asked what it meant to be “coloured.” The singer didn’t answer the question. She looked to her management. A voice said, “Can we not, por favor?” Charlamagne stated that he would not edit out that part of the interview.
As previously reported by The Shade Room, Tyla released a statement answering the question after the interview. The songstress took to her Instagram stories and stated, “Never denied my Blackness idk where that came from.” Additionally, she stated, “I’m both Coloured in South African and a black [woman].”

Roommates weighed in on Tyla’s interview and the tea the radio host dropped.
@funsize_tana said, “Why go on an interview, especially the breakfast club who are known to be messy but don’t want to answer questions about your life?”
@aspinnickela agreed, writing, “Why even interview if you don’t want to answer any questions. Just decline the interview.”
Other Roomies believed it would have been beneficial if Tyla had answered the questions.
@juniahxo stated, “She had the opportunity to clear up misconceptions and she made it 10x worse.”
“This could have been a teaching moment for people who didn’t understand how race is seen differently in different parts of the world,” @thesamplelounge added.
