Etsy’s new policy regarding adult content will prohibit the sale of adult sex toys and other types of explicit content on its platform. The significant changes outlined in their Adult Nudity and Sexual Content policy will take effect on July 29.

Under the updated policy, Etsy will no longer permit the sale of adult toys that are designed for genital insertion or applied to the genitalia, Mashable reported. However, non-insertable and non-penetrable adult toys and accessories, such as BDSM wear, will be allowed, provided that they comply with Etsy’s guidelines on adult content. Additionally, listings must be tagged appropriately, not displayed in public areas of a user’s account, and feature an appropriate thumbnail for all audiences.
Pornographic materials will also be prohibited for sale, including explicit media and custom content depicting sexual acts. Non-realistic depictions of nudity and sex acts are allowed as long as visible genitalia are not shown.

“Etsy has long had policies prohibiting certain mature content and providing guidance on appropriately listing adult items. Today, we are building on this foundation, updating our standards, and introducing more rigorous guidelines,” said Etsy VP of Trust and Safety Alice Wu Paulus.
The policy also addresses the depiction of nudity by human models, and lingerie listings must ensure that body parts are censored or use other methods like mannequins. Sexual services such as selling feet pictures are also banned from the platform.
