An attorney representing Kanye West has requested to withdraw from an ongoing lawsuit, claiming non-payment and lack of communication from the rapper.

Brian Brumfield has filed a motion to be relieved from representing West in his lawsuit against an autograph dealer who accused West of assault. In the court documents, Brumfield claims that West terminated their working relationship on June 22. He also states that West reportedly “will not speak to counsel” and “refuses to pay as well.” The hearing on Brumfield’s motion is scheduled for July 29.
The motion refers to a lawsuit filed on January 10 by Justin Poplawski and his wife, Tiffany Marshall. They have accused West of assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligence. Marshall also claims a loss of consortium due to the incident, as reported by Page Six.

Poplawski alleges he approached West outside the SoHo Warehouse social club in downtown Los Angeles in January 2022, seeking an autograph. West allegedly responded by striking Poplawski. When he asked for an apology, West reportedly said, “Apology for what?” and proceeded to hit him several more times, resulting in injuries. Poplawski claims that West’s aggression stemmed from the stress of his ongoing divorce proceedings with Kim Kardashian.
The news comes amid another lawsuit filed earlier this month against West by a former Yeezy staffer. The staffer alleges that West’s new wife, Bianca Censori, distributed explicit materials accessible to minors while working on the “Yeezy Porn” project. Censori has vehemently denied these allegations.
