The year 2024 has already witnessed the release of several entertaining Indian movies. Not only Hindi cinema, but films from regional cinemas have made it to the highest grossing Indian movies of 2024 list. While Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD has become the highest grosser of the year so far, it is currently running in the theaters and is expected to reach new milestones.

From Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter to a number of Malayalam entertainers, here’s the list of the highest grossing Indian movies of 2024.

Fighter

After over a year, Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan returned to the silver screens with Fighter. Based on the biggest air strike in India, the movie focuses on the lives of Indian Air Force officers. The film also marked the actor’s first on-screen pairing with Deepika Padukone. Besides the duo, it also stars Karan Singh Grover, Anil Kapoor, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Ashutosh Rana, and Akshay Oberoi in pivotal roles. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the movie received mixed reviews from the audience. Despite the response, Fighter grossed a decent amount at the global box office. Per Sacnilk, the film earned a whopping $43 million.

HanuMan

Teja Sajja transformed into a superhero in the mythological fantasy movie HanuMan. The film was released at the starting of the year ahead of the festival of Sankranti. It is a part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe. Fans and critics both praised the film for its unique plot. It follows the life of a common village boy who accidentally receives the power of Lord Hanuman and uses them to save his people. The film reportedly grossed $35.34 million at the box office worldwide.

Manjummel Boys

The Malayalam movie, Manjummel Boys, directed by Chidambaram, scripted history. It became the highest grossing Malayalam movie of all time. Based on the 2006 incident of Gunaa Caves, the movie is a testimony of true friendship. Moreover, it has become one of the most beloved survival dramas produced in India. The movie grossed a whopping $28.8 million at the worldwide box office.

Shaitaan

Actors Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, and Jyothika came together for the horror drama, Shaitaan. The movie successfully gave chills down the viewers’ spine with its unique plot. It allegedly grossed a whopping $25.5 million at its worldwide box office and became the fourth highest grossing Indian movie of 2024 so far.

Guntur Kaaram

Mahesh Babu returned to the silver screens with the family action drama, Guntur Kaaram. Apart from the heavy action sequences, the movie is an emotional rollercoaster as it narrates the story of a mother and her estranged son. While the makers’ expectations with the movie were extremely high, it failed to impress them. However, it managed to collect $21.62 million worldwide.

The Goat Life

Another Malayalam survival drama, Aadujeevitham, aka The Goat Life, made it to the list of the highest grossing Indian movies of 2024. Led by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the movie revealed the real-life story of an Indian laborer who was forced to herd goats in the desert of a middle eastern country. Helmed by Blessy, the movie earned $18.8 million worldwide.

Aavesham

Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil was seen in a different avatar in his latest comedy-drama, Aavesham. The actor played the role of a Malayali gangster who also has a soft side to him. Fans and critics loved the venture with the film allegedly earning $18.5 million across the globe.

Crew

The Hindi movie Crew made history; its opening day collection was the highest for any female-led film. The movie starred leading Bollywood actresses Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon. It follows the lives of three air hostesses and cabin crew members who strive to change their destiny and earn a quick buck. As they take a shortcut, they find themselves caught up in a web of lies. Crew grossed $18.1 million at the global box office.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya

Kriti Sanon and Shahid Kapoor came together for the rom-com, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, this year. However, it was not a romance movie between two humans as one of them was a robot. The movie earned $16.6 million at the box office worldwide.

Premalu

The hit Malayalam rom-com, Premalu, thoroughly entertained the audience. Following the movie’s success, it was dubbed in various languages. The film follows the story of two individuals who come from distinct backgrounds and fall in love with each other. It earned about $15.7 million at the box office.

In conclusion, the first half of 2024 saw a number of movies reaching new milestones. Moreover, the second half, which will see the release of many anticipated movies, is expected to create and break existing records. Stay tuned for more updates.
